What industry blogs or magazines do you read to keep in touch with the shape of the fantasy and science fiction world?
Both readers and writers will agree that the world of F&SF changes on at least a yearly, if not daily basis. Some anthologies try to gather the year's news in book-length chunks - where does someone who wants it on a day to day basis go? Here's some suggestions: Both Analog and Asimov's have associated message boards, as does the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Editors participate from time to time on all three boards. Analog Discussion Board http://www.analogsf.com/discus/ Asimov's Science Fiction Discussion Boards http://www.asimovs.com/discus/ Nightshade Books: Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction Discussion Area http://www.nightshadebooks.com/discus/messages/378/378.html Locus Online Editorial blog is located at http://locusmag.blogspot.com/. Incredibly useful link page at http://www.locusmag.com/Links/Portal.html. Locus's front page is straightforward, useful and probably the place where someone serious about the field/market should usually start the day. SFF Net's discussion newsgroups http://webnews.sff.net/ Associated with SFWA (Science Fiction Wrters' Association). Orson Scott Card's Hatrack River Forums http://www.hatrack.com/forums/index.shtml Two categories: Discussions about Orson Scott Card and Books, Films, Food and Culture, aka all the rest of the universe. Probably most meaningful if you are a die-hard OSC fan or have attended one of his classes/lectures. Speculations & the Rumor Mill http://www.speculations.com/index.html Lots of content, some of it useful.
