J K Rowling Delves into the Disturbing Mind of Voldemort

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has Harry looking back at Voldemort's past in an attempt to try and understand the twisted mind of a broken madman.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is once again an inspired novel with an interesting twist from the pen, or perhaps quill, of J. K. Rowling. She continues to astound and surprise her audience with the magical world that flew straight from her mind onto paper.

J K Rowling Explores the Deep, Dark World of the Mind

Although Harry used the Pensieve in both Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it becomes a core element of the Half Blood Prince. In order for Harry to be truly prepared to fight Voldemort he must understand his enemy, thus the world is opened up to Harry by of the Pensieve, which he uses with Dumbledore to retrace Voldemort’s activities and learn his darkest secrets.

The Plot of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

When Harry receives a hand me down copy of his news Potions book, he discovers it once belonged to the Half Blood Prince, a student with incredible insight into working with Potions. From the notes in the Half Blood Prince’s textbook, Harry shoots to the top of the class, but eventually his budding relationship with the unknown previous owner soon turns sour.

At the same time, Harry is receiving personal lessons from Dumbledore, by way of the Pensieve, learning the best way to destroy Voldemort forever. If that wasn’t enough, Harry also makes time for love, falling for Ron’s sister Ginny, who had worshipped him even before he saved her life in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, although he fears Ron’s wrath if he ever found out.

Finally, the conclusion of the book ends with Death Eater’s entering Hogwarts grounds and fighting the teacher’s in order to corner Dumbledore and Harry. Voldemort is getting daring if he thinks he can infiltrate even Hogwarts itself, he has grown strong and Harry is still far from ready to face him.

New Characters Inaugurated in Harry Potter's World

The newest addition to the Hogwarts teaching staff is Horace Slughorn, a retired Potions Master, who returns at Dumbledore’s request. Slughorn has a way of collecting students, inviting the most gifted and influential to be a part of his club so that he can have prominent contacts throughout the wizarding community.

Harry becomes one of his top students by following the advice of the Half Blood Prince. Although the Half Blood Prince is just a name on paper, his brilliance and viciousness are well portrayed throughout the novel. He is given a breath of new life by Harry, who becomes obsessed with him, hoping that his true identity would be an old friend or even family member.

Conclusion

The sixth Harry Potter book is, unfortunately, Harry’s final year at Hogwarts. Harry finally gets a steady girlfriend, he amazingly surpasses Hermione in a class and he finally learns from Dumbledore one on one, then everything just comes crashing down. Brutal and moving, the Half Blood Prince will have readers laughing in one part and crying in another. That is the true sign of a brilliant book.
