Werewolf Dreams Book ReviewA Paranormal Story With Heart by M.M. Anderson
M.M. Anderson has written a fun and entertaining story with a twist, combining werewolves, humans, humor and a love story.
In the fictional town of New City, strange things are happening. There is a werewolf in the police department. Actually, Seamus Sullivan is not a bad guy, and he is a good cop too. It’s just that on full moons he has to take the night off. His friend, Sergeant Gaffney who knows his little secret, gives him time off for blue moons too. Being a werewolf has its advantages. On the downside, if it is a downside, Seamus will remain seventeen years old for eternity. Seamus uses his “wolf” traits when needed. He is a killer, but he only kills bad people. Dreaming of a WerewolfClaudia, a teen herself, lives with her brother Alex who is a famous baseball player. Their parents are dead, but Claudia is still in contact with them. She has paranormal qualities. She also has nightmares. In her dreams she sees a wolf and witnesses his killings. These dreams haunt her. What she doesn’t know, and soon discovers, is that she is really transporting herself to the actual scenes. She is witnessing Seamus. When the two finally meet they already have a bond. After all, she has been witnessing his deeds and he has always seen this girl who comes to watch him. So, even though they have just met, they do know each other, in a strange and paranormal way. When Claudia gets kidnapped, this sends Seamus on a desperate hunt to find her. Along the way he discovers a group of other werewolves and learns more about himself and how he became one of the “undead.” The Living and the UndeadSoon, instead of Seamus, a werewolf, living in the world of the living, Claudia gets involved in an adventure and is a human living in the world of the undead. When these two worlds collide, anything is possible. A Fun Style for a Science Fiction StoryM.M. Anderson writes in a fun, visual style and this whimsical story has many clever things that will remind readers of life outside the pages of the book. Instead of New York City, the location is New City, and instead of Boston the city is Bean Town. Instead of the Lincoln Tunnel there is the Washington Tunnel, and the Mayor doesn’t live in Gracie Mansion, he lives in Tracie Mansion. There is no Starbucks but there is a Moonrocks. There are plenty of these fun tongue-in-cheek changes to places. It makes this story a little more humorous than if the author had used actual places. The play-on-words is one aspect of this enjoyable read. Another storyline weaving through the main story is a relationship between a dogged journalist determined on getting a big story, and the wisecracking, no-nonsense mother of a thug. These two are unique characters themselves, but when they are put together, they are highly amusing. With a clairvoyant heroine who talks to and sees the dead, a werewolf, foul smelling beelzebubbles, a mystery, and a love story, Werewolf Dreams is a good escape from the world of the normal. This paranormal adventure is fast-paced and entertaining. The sequel to Werewolf Dreams is Werewolf Love: Until Death Do Us Part, which will probably be released in 2011, and the third in the series will follow down the line. Even for those readers who have never read a sci-fi novel, this is a fun book.
