Science fiction novelist Octavia Estelle Butler passed away in Seattle, Washington on Friday, February 24, 2006. Octavia served as an Advisory Board member of The Science Fiction Museum & Hall of Fame and was the author of a dozen books of science fiction, the most recent being <I>Fledging</i>. Shewas the first science fiction writer granted a MacArthur genius grant and won Hugo, Nebula, and Pen awards.
The SF Museum will host a memorial gathering in her honor on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:30 p.m. on Level 3 of SFM. Local science fiction authors, including Vonda N. McIntyre and Greg Bear will read favorite passages from her work and speak about her life and influence. All are invited to attend.
