Ray Harryhausen at SF Museum in Seattle, Washington

Ray Harryhausen is considered the father of special effects because of his landmark work creating the huge ape of Mighty Joe Young, the fighting skeletons of Jason and the Argonauts, and, of course, the angry T. Rex of Island of the Gwangi. He is also responsible for the special effects in The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad, and Clash of the Titans. These visual masterpieces of stop-motion animation inspire reverance among film historians, animators, and special effect designers even today. The University Bookstore will be at the event with copies of Ray's beautiful new book, The Art of Ray Harryhausen, for sale and Ray will sign copies.

In 1992, Ray Harryhausen was presented with an honorary Academy Award for his life's work, and in 2003 was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
