Sixteen Washington, D.C.-area science fiction and fantasy writers will read very short selections from their work in a Monday, June 19, 2006, rapid-fire reading to benefi


The event will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Mayorga Coffee Factory at 8040 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. A donation of $5 to $15 is suggested. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

Participants will include:

R.R. Angell, whose story "In the Space of Nine Lives" appeared in the January 2006 Asimov's;

Tom Doyle, whose stories have appeared on Strange Horizons, among other venues;

Stephenie Dray, founder and manager of the interactive storytelling game, "FiranMUX";

Poet Nan Fry, whose fantasy poems have appeared in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 16 and The Faery Reel;

Rob Gates, who runs the Gaylactic Spectrum Awards;

Jamie Gaughran-Perez, who runs the online weekly "Rock Heals";

Clarion West alumnus Craig Lawrence Gidney;

Jon Lee, who does improv as well as writing fiction;

Mary Anne Mohanraj, founder of both the Speculative Literature Foundation and Strange Horizons, and author of Bodies in Motion;

Nancy Jane Moore, whose novella "Changeling" is available from Aqueduct Press;

Ben Rosenbaum, recent Hugo award nominee for "Benjamin Rosenbaum's Biographical Notes to 'A Discourse on the Nature of Causality, with Air-Planes' by Benjamin Rosenbaum";

Anne Sheldon, whose narrative poem The Adventures of the Faithful Counselor is available from Aqueduct Press;

Analog Mafia member Rosemary Claire Smith;

David Williams, co-writer of the award-winning game "Homeworld";

as well as Jennifer Brinn and Contance Warner.
