It seems like Superhero Season lately: first there's the bizarrely interesting reality show, "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?" and then the new movie, "My Super Ex-Girlfriend". We're seeing a wave of interest in pirates lately; will superheroes be the next thing, driven by movies like this as well as others - Superman, Spiderman, X-Men, Batman, Ghost Rider, The Incredibles...the list gets a little longer every day, it seems.
I think it's advances in CGI technology that have moved us here - remember the old superhero movies and how incredibly cheesy some of them were? Now there's the technology to make someone seem like they really -are- a super-powered being, rather than someone in tights hanging from strings. And it thrills me to death, because I'm a longtime comic book reader - and in my tabletop gaming days, I played a lot of Champions, which is somewhat like D&D but with superheroes. And a lot of math.
So what I'm wondering, is whether we're going to start seeing more superhero oriented fiction. I'd certainly be pleased to see it. How about you?
