Kayowin-14,
I've only published one book, but I find your way the only way. Don't worry about chapters, write the story and the chapters will emerge. My problem was and still is, about half way through, the characters take over and they dictate how the last half ends. I just follow their logical course and they take care of themselves. I don't have much say. That seems strange to me.
